AMD has been fighting an uphill battle on two fronts for the last few
years. For a time, fierce competition from NVIDIA, coupled with some of
their own problems executing, put the ATI graphics division in a deep
hole. And ever since the introduction of the original Core 2
processors, and more recently the Core i7, AMD's processor division has
fallen well behind Intel in terms of overall performance.Starting in
November of last year though, we got a sense that AMD was slowly, but
surely, clawing its way

Resumindo: não conseguiram superar os Core i7, mas chegaram
perto... Consomem menos, mas levando-se em conta que não superaram os
da intel, dá na mesma.

Mas podem ser atraentes como upgrade, dependendo do preço que
chegarem aqui, para quem já tiver uma placa-mãe AM2 que os aceite,
já que, ao menos esses, usarão as mesmas memórias DDR2...

Well, that didn't take long. Mere hours after we saw the ultra-lovely Sony VAIO P make its official debut here at CES, some industrious, sadistic folks have seen fit to tear it to shreds, exposing its guts for all to marvel (or tear up) over. We have to say, it's just as good looking on the inside as it is on the outside, but see for yourselves after the break, where there's a beautiful / horrifying gallery to stare at.

Sony VAIO P, Chegou o Netbook de 8 Polegadas Mais Leve do Mundo!

A Sony acaba de anunciar na CES 2009 o lançamento do VAIO P, que é o netbook de 8" mais leve do mundo! Ele tem uma belíssima tela LCD XBRITE-ECO LED-backlit com resolução de 1600 x 769 pixels, Wi-Fi 802.11n, 3G WWAN, Bluetooth, e até mesmo um GPS! Pelas fotos você pode reparar que a minha versão do VAIO P não estava tão longe da realidade.

Este netbook só pesa 635 gramas e tem uma bateria que dura até oito horas (ou quatro horas na versão mais barata). O modo de ligação instantânea abre a interface Sony Xross Media Bar. Como nada é perfeito, o Sony VAIO P roda Windows Vista, mas se eu comprar um certamente vou instalar o Windows 7. O Sony VAIO P deve custar a partir US$ 900, lá fora. Como estamos falando da Sony, eu achei até barato.

Faster SATA standard coming in second quarter of this year, says SATA-IO

The folks behind the Serial ATA standard have been working on drafting a new, faster spec for a little while now, but it looks like things are finally starting to firm up, and SATA-IO marketing chair Conrad Maxwell now says that the new 6Gb/s standard is on track for release in the second quarter of this year. That, as you're no doubt aware, is twice as fast as the current spec and, according to Maxwell, it'll be backwards compatible with both the SATA-1.5Gb/s and SATA-3Gb/s specs. What's more, it's apparently also the group's intention to double the E-SATA spec to 6Gb/s as well, although no one seems to be making any promises on a date for that just yet. As a bit of a bonus, the group will apparently also be rolling out a new Power over ESATA spec (or ESATAp), which will allow 5 or 12 volts of power to be delivered via an ESATA connector.

Vendas de laptops avançam e empurram para fim da "era do desktop"

A era do computador de mesa parece ter acabado depois que as vendas de laptops dispararam. Não havia um único desktop entre os dez mais vendidos da lista de PCs e hardware da Amazon.com, no fim de semana anterior ao Natal. A lista tinha sete laptops. "Tanto em termos de preço quanto de desempenho, os laptops são tão competitivos que surpreende que não tenham sido capazes de ultrapassar os desktops ainda mais cedo", afirma Peter Lin, analista da iSuppli. "O acesso à internet sem fio em lugares públicos, a possibilidade de 'carregar o escritório' quando a pessoa está viajando e linhas de laptop cada vez mais amplas resultaram em uma redução nas vendas de computadores de mesa", diz. SDXC memory cards promise 2TB of storage, 300MBps transfer

Usually, we poo-poo any new memory card format what with the plethora of options available today. But when a new itty bitty card is announced with a ridiculous 2TB (2 terabyte!) maximum capacity (theoretical), well, we're willing to make the jump to a new format. SDXC (SD eXtended Capacity) relies upon Microsoft's exFAT file system and stores more than 4,000 RAW images, 100 HD movies, or 60 hours of HD recording with a transfer rate of up to 300MBps. The first batch of retail cards will hit before March with read/write speeds up to 104MBps in unknown capacities, though certainly less than 2TB on day one.
